Allen Sonny Freese, 90, of Bellevue, passed away, Tuesday morning, August 1st, 2017 at his home.Scripture prayers will be said at 1:30p.m. Saturday afternoon, August 5 at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Bellevue, followed by Burial Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque. Visitation for Allen will be held from 10:30-1:30p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home. Allen was born on April 5th, 1927 in Dubuque, the son of Allen Sr. and Mary (Krier) Freese. Allen started working at his fathers business, Nu-Way Cleaners at the age of 16. He left to serve the United States Navy, during WWII. He returned from the service to the family business in 1945. Allen later married the love of his life, an employee at the business, Janice Clough on August 7, 1963. He put his heart and soul into Nu-Way and took over ownership after his fathers passing in 1976. Allens customers meant the world to him. Over the years he served the communities of Dubuque, Bellevue, Andrew, Preston, and St. Donatus. The hardest decision he ever made was retiring, just a few years ago. Allen was always upbeat and lifted the spirits of anybody he came in contact with. He was simple, generous and had a great sense of humor. Most of his time was spent working, but he made the most of any free time he had, camping, gardening, taking a ride in his convertible. He also enjoyed watching the Vikings and Hawkeyes. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of almost 54 years, Janice Freese, of Bellevue; five children, Tom, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jim, of Bellevue, Julie (Craig) Weiner, of Dubuque, Bob (Patty), of Marion, Iowa and Don, of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Kissell.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com.
