Bernice M. (Kilburg) Bormann, 99, of Bellevue, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Mill Valley Care Center.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue.  Visitation will be 9:00 am – 10:30 am prior to Mass at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue.  Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.

Bernice was born September 21, 1924 in rural Springbrook, the daughter of Peter and Augusta (Puetz) Kilburg.  She married Vivian “Ike” Bormann on November 24, 1949 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, he passed on May 24, 2017.  She attended rural school, Sts. Peter & Paul School in Springbrook and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Bellevue.  She received her teaching certificate from University of Dubuque and taught for 7 years in Jackson County Schools.  Also, she worked at Gibson Plant in Bellevue, Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, and later helped her husband with the farm work.  Bernice was an excellent baker and cook.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her siblings, Millie Haxmeier, Marcy Roling, and Ruth Heiar; a sister in-law, Velma Kilburg; and numerous nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews, whom she was very proud of all of them; and numerous extended family.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings and in-laws, LeRoy (Kathleen) Kilburg, Lucille (Sylvester “Ves”) Bormann, Wayne “Bud” Haxmeier, Glenn Roling, Allen “Allie” Heiar, Merlin Kilburg, Jean (Allan) Hoffmann; nieces, Marla Daniels, LaVonne Walgamuth, Donna Noonan, Mary Ellen Bormann; nephews, Kevin, Jamie Kilburg, and Glen Borman.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bernice’s memory.
