Carol (McLaughlin-Shanahan) Capesius

Carol (McLaughlin-Shanahan) Capesius, 85, of Bellevue, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Mill Valley Care Center.  

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue.  Family will greet friends 9:00 am – 10:30 am also on, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue prior to Mass.  Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in LaMotte.

Carol was born July 31, 1938 in Maquoketa, the daughter of Justin and Georgia (Nemmers) McLaughlin.  She graduated from Academy of the Visitation in Dubuque in 1956-“Vis Girls”.  Carol married Allan Shanahan on June 14, 1958, he passed on July 23, 1970. Later she married Arthur Capesius on November 26, 1971, he passed on March 13, 2002.  She was active in Knights of Columbus and American Legion Auxiliary’s, and Rosary Society.  Carol’s passion was farming with her husband, playing Bingo, word puzzles, visiting with her grandchildren, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, and watching “wrassling” on Saturday nights.  She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Linda Shanahan, Glen Shanahan, Laura Heiken, Beverly (Jerome) Gaul, and Kevin (Karen) Capesius; grandchildren, Brandy (Michael Novotny) Shanahan, Cody (Alaine) Shanahan, Colin Shanahan, Andrea (Brandon) Ryan, Stephanie Heiken, Derek (Angel) Steil, Ryan Steil, Emma Steil, Kyle (Kelsey) Gaul, Jesse (Kelly) Gaul, Justin Gaul, Justin Capesius, Madelyn (Jason Dura) Capesius, and Will Capesius; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Rien, Makenna, Raylan, Kennedy, Kaiya, Isaac, Josh, Jaleb, Canaan, Brantley, Riley, and Cove; great great-grandchildren, Jameson, and Braiden;  a sister, Arlene (Paul) Shanahan; sisters in-law, Joyce (Harold) Gibbs; and Marcie Capesius.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; fathers and mothers in-law, Leo and Anita Shanahan and Edward and Josephine Capesius; a sister, Doris McLaughlin; two son in-laws, Steve Heiken, and Rusty Coons; a sister in-law, Jean (Bill) Dunne; and a brother in-law, Raymond Capesius.

A memorial fund has been established in Carol’s memory.
