Cletus F. “Ham” Sieverding, 89, of Bellevue, passed away on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue, Iowa.  Vigil Service will begin at 3:30 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue with Visitation to follow until 7:00 pm, additional visitation will be 9:30am until Mass on Friday at church.   Burial with Military Honors conducted by Bellevue American Legion Post #273 will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.  Local arrangements at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. 

Cletus was born October 3, 1934 in Bellevue, IA, the son of Cletus and Clara (Till) Sieverding.  Cletus married Phyllis Mae Heckelsmiller on June 26, 1956; she passed on May 5, 2002.  He married Betty Jean Green on June 7, 2003 and she passed November 8, 2023.  Cletus is an Army veteran, serving his country from 1954 – 1956. He was an excellent steward of his farm on Sieverding Ridge Road and was one of the first to embrace conservation practices.  He served on the USDA .  Cletus was a continuous member of the Bellevue American Legion for 50 yearsand a member of the Knights of Columbus for 61 years.  Cletus was one of the charter members of the Bellevue Horseman’s Club and remained a member since it’s inception in 1962.  When his father passed away, Cletus taught himself to play the saxophone and joined The Sieverding Band.  The Sieverding Band played for many anniversariesweddings and the annual St. Joseph Polka Mass.  He enjoyed his morning coffees with his siblings and was also an avid basketball fan and never missed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Survivors include Greg (Deb) Sieverding, Jeanne (Larry) Cotter, Gary “Bear” (Julie) Sieverding, step-children Kim (Dave) Jacobi and Kathy (Chet) Claussen. Grandchildren Trent (Alisha) Sieverding, Tracey Sieverding, Todd (Jiah) Sieverding, Amy Osmond, Brett (Jena) Ernst, Curt (Kari) Ernst, Melissa (Greg) Hunt, Jacki Cotter, Shane (Amber) Cotter, Joseph Maher, Kayla SieverdingLucas Sieverding and 20 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 6 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great grandchildren and 2 step-great-great grandchildren; sister Alice Kilburg, brothers and sister’s in-law; Dave Sieverding, Glenn (Shirley) Sieverding, Dan (Mary) Sieverding, Mark (Sherri) Sieverding, Darlene SieverdingDarla Sieverding, Donna Sieverding and numerous nieces and nephews.  Cletus is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Phyllis, his second wife Betty, infant daughter Mary Ann Sieverding, sisters Karen Sieverding and Marilyn (Virtus) Clasen, brothers Tom, Don and Lorinbrother in-law, Lorin Kilburg, and sister-in-law Norma Sieverding.


A memorial fund has been established in Cletus’ memory.
