Dolores Byrnes Winkel, 88, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North Campus. Visitation will be held Monday, October 1, 2007 from 4 8PM at Lemke Funeral Homes Lyons Chapel, 2304 N. 2nd Street. The Rosary, lead by the Knights of Columbus will be said at 7PM. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Parish Sacred Heart Church at 10:30AM. Father Thomas Hennen will officiate. A private burial will take place on Wednesday at St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus. Dolores was born June 29, 1919 in Ponca, Nebraska to James and Elizabeth (Berens) Byrnes. She was a 1936 graduate of Millbank High School in Millbank, South Dakota. She married Edward James Winkel on November 2, 1940 at St. Patricks Church in Clinton, Iowa. Dolores worked for the Clinton Garment Factory, Burpee Seed Company and retired from A.C. Nielsens with twenty years of service. Dolores was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Daughters of Isabella, Prince of Peace Ladies Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, serving as an officer. She was a Third Order of St. Francis, helped with Meals on Wheels for many years and was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for over ten years. Dolores was also a member of the Alverno Red Hat Society where she resided. Dolores is survived by her daughter; Lois (Ben) Sneed of Hendersonville, NC, one son; James (Charlotte) Winkel of Clinton and grandson; Michael J. Winkel of Lexington, KY. Her parents, husband and two sisters, Sr. Emerita (Maxine Byrnes) and Betty Brown precede her in death. Memorials can be made to the Alverno Health Care Facility of Clinton, Iowa.
