Dorothy May Marciniak

Dorothy May Marciniak, 83, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at her home in Bellevue. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, September 9, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation for Dorothy will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service, and again Monday morning after 9:30 prior to the funeral service at the church. Dorothy was born on July 31, 1930 in Homer Township, Illinois daughter of Irving and Agnes (White) Volrath. She married Clarence V. Splitt on November 25, 1950, he passed away June 30, 1969, she later married Raymond E. Marciniak on October 4, 1975, and he passed away April 11, 2011. Dorothy worked at the Lewis University in Romeoville, Il as a Student Financial Aid Counselor for twenty two years, retiring in 1993. She then moved to Bellevue in 1994. Dorothy was an active member at St. Johns Lutheran Church. She took pride volunteering in the many organizations within the church and in her community. Dorothy enjoyed spending many years fishing on the Mississippi River with her husband Raymond; she also enjoyed reading, walking, crocheting, knitting, and baking. Dorothy had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she has touched. Those left to honor her memory include her son, Mark (Karen Lukasek) Splitt, of Crest Hill, Illinois; daughter, Teri Marciniak, of Lockport, Illinois; two grandchildren, Matthew (Emily Knouse) and Sarah Otteman; brother, Harold (Nancy) Volrath; sister in-law, Helen Volrath; ex son in-law, John Otteman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and brother, Milton. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Bellevue Ambulance, Hospice of Jackson County, and Mercy Medical Center of Dubuque for their special care and compassion shown to Dorothy and her family.
