Esther A. Rubel

Esther A. Rubel, 87, of Bellevue, IA, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Finley Hospital, Dubuque, IA. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 4th, from 4 8pm and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Kingery ~ John C Lemke Funeral Home, Bellevue. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 5th, at 11:00am at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Bellevue. Burial will follow in the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery. Esther A. Rubel was born April 3, 1920, in Bellevue, IA, the daughter of Rudolph and Caroline (Schlesch) Schroeder. She was baptized in 1920 and confirmed on July 29, 1934, both at St. Johns Lutheran Church in St. Donatus, IA. Esther attended country school in the LaMotte area and following school she helped her father on the farm and also worked at Gibsons Mfg. Co. Esther was united in marriage to Melvin Rubel on October 3, 1944, at St. Donatus. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1999. Together they farmed until retiring and moving to Bellevue in 1978. She then babysat for 21 years. Esther is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Roger) Bies of Dubuque, two sons Larry (Suzanne) Rubel of Epworth and Dennis Rubel of Maquoketa; four grandchildren: Amy (John) Steadman of Bankston; Joel Rubel (fiance, Michelle Begle) of Epworth; Jared Rubel (special friend, Leha Pettinger) of Epworth; Jeremy (Brenda) Rubel of Cascade; two great grandchildren, Autumn and Jonathon Steadman and one sister Berdella (Robert) Pitz of Dubuque. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, three sisters, one brother, and one son. Memorials may be directed to the family.
