Garland L. Reed, 97, of Bellevue, died, Monday, August 30, 2010 at her daughters home in Bellevue, surrounded by her family. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. in The First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation for Garland will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Friday at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Saturday morning after 9:30 at the church. Garland was born June 5, 1913 in Maquoketa, daughter of Elmer and Blanche (Hartman) Gaylor. She married Carlton Reed on June 30, 1935 in Bellevue. Carlton passed away August 26, 1983. In the 30s, Garland was a country school teacher in Green Island and St. Donatus. After she married Carlton, she stayed home to help on the farm and raise their four children. She later worked in the kitchen for Bellevue Community School. Garland loved to bake, and shared her baked goods with many. Family and church were extremely important to her. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and various church groups. Garland was a very caring, helpful, organized and loving person who had a powerful influence on her family. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and took a great interest in their lives. Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Barb (Jim) Keil, of Bellevue; three sons, Ross Reed, of Bellevue, Max (Mary) Reed, of Bellevue, and Gordon (Marie) Reed, of Springbrook; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Lois Felderman; and two sisters in-law, Ardis Gaylor and Gertrude Gaylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter in-law, Ellen Griebel; grandson, Philip Reed; great grandson, Kyle Reed, and six brothers. The Family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Jackson County. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County.
