Howard John Peter Kuehl

Howard John Peter Kuehl, 89, of Maquoketa, formally of Andover passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Jackson County Public Hospital. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007 from 9am 11am at Faith Lutheran Church, Andover, Iowa. Funeral Services will be at 11am with Chaplain Horst Hehr officiating. Pallbearers will be Briton and Jeremy Hildebrandt, Collin and Landon Geronzin, Andy Kuehl and Jeff Raab. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danaca Raab and Jason Kuehl. Internment will follow at the Andover Cemetery. Howard was born on August 23, 1917 to Peter and Hulda (Wilke) Kuehl at home on the family farm near Andover, Iowa. Howard married Mae Hermine Farrance on August 23, 1947 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa. Howard farmed all his life on the family farm, which was farmed by three generations, in Andover. He also worked at Waukesha Engines in Clinton. Howard was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Andover and the Farm Bureau. Howard and Mae would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this summer. Howard was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He enjoyed fried catfish on Friday nights on the Mississippi Belle II and would bring $4.00 with him to play the nickel slot machines. He loved to check the colors on the newborn pigs to see the variations of markings. After retirement, he enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets. His grandchildren were a great source of pride to him. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Geronzin of Maquoketa and Mary (Gary) Hildebrandt of Anamosa, IA; two sons, Glen (Linda) Kuehl of Clinton and Ted (Cindy) Kuehl of Independence, KS; one granddaughter, Danaca (Jeff) Raab of Fulton, IL; six grandsons, Briton Hildebrandt of Blue Grass, IA, Collin Geronzin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Andy Kuehl of Clinton, Jeremy Hildebrandt of Aurora, IL, Landon Geronzin of San Diego, CA and Jason Kuehl of Independence, KS; step great grandchildren, Elaina and Samantha Raab; and one sister, Arlene Kroeger of Hialeah, FL. His parents; grandson, Matthew Kuehl; sister Elna Dever and brother, Clarence Kuehl preceded him in death. Memorials can be made to the family.
