Kathleen M. Ries-Schmitt (Rubel)

Bellevue, Ia. Kathleen M. Ries-Schmitt, 86, of Bellevue, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, November 5, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue with Fr. Phillip Kruse officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 7 pm at Hachmann Funeral Home, Bellevue and Wednesday morning after 9:00 until 10:00am at the funeral home. Kathleen, daughter of Edward & Mathilda (Scholtes) Rubel, was born on July 3, 1928, in St. Donatus. She married Melvin Doc Ries on January 2, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue, he passed away, January 5, 1987. She later married Gus Schmitt on March 4, 1998. He passed away October 9, 2000. Kathleen was a cook at the Riverview Hotel for over 33 years. She had a great sense of humor and always kept busy. Katie was a member of the Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Young at Hearts Card Club. She was devoted to her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. Those left to honor her memory include her two sons, Ronald (Pat) Ries, Randy (Linda) Ries, both of Bellevue; five daughters, Ruth Weimerskirk, Rosalie (Art) Ploessl, Rita (Steve) Putman, all of Bellevue, Rebecca (Kevin) Hurlburt, of Richmond, Indiana, and Roxanne (Doug) Kueter, of Charlotte, Iowa; daughter in-law, Barb Ries, of Bellevue; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; son, Robert Ries, and son in-law Larry Weimerskirk; daughter in-law, LuAnn Ries; grandchild, Doug Ries; great grandchildren, Ann Heiar, Justin Heiar and Lindsy Ploessl, five brothers and six sisters.
