LaVerne M. Watters

LaVerne M. (Junk) Watters, 91, of Luther Manor, formerly of Alverno Apartments, and Bellevue, went to her eternal rest at 3:15pm Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at Luther Manor. Funeral mass of celebration will be at St Josephs Church, Bellevue, at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 2. Friends may call from 4:00 7:00pm Monday at Kingery Funeral Home and again Tuesday morning at the funeral home after 9:30 until procession to church. She was born on May 2, 1918 in Springbrook; daughter of Matt and Anna Junk. She married Martin Watters on May 5, 1942 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook: he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1998. She worked at the Bellevue Hotel as a waitress until her retirement. LaVerne and Martin loved to dance and play cards. LaVerne loved to talk and visit with friends. The family felt she had a direct line to Gods ear so consequently she was petitioned with prayer requests. Survivors are five children, Loras (Karen) Watters of Dubuque and Mesa, Az, Roger (Jan) Watters of Bellevue, Sandy (Dennis) Scheckel of DeWitt, Jim (Carol) Watters of Cedar Rapids, Chuck (Sherry) Watters of Wellington, Fl , 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Survivors are sisters, Audrey Heim of Maquoketa and Algean Steines of Bellevue; sister-in-laws Marcella Babe Junk of Bellevue, Madonna Marcus of Dubuque, Mary (Eldon) Wills of Galena, Ill; a brother in-law George (Elsie) Watters of Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Juletta Reistroffer, Marvin Junk, Evelyn Gerardy, Vivian Manders, Ardo Junk, Dwain Junk and Marie Kilburg. A memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and concern for LaVerne.
