Leona Caroline Scheckel

Leona Caroline Scheckel, 95, of Springbrook, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the Mill Valley Care Center, in Bellevue. Leona, the daughter of the late John P. and Rosina (Jacobs) Weis was born June 6th, 1911, on a farm south of Springbrook. She married Matt Scheckel on May 2nd, 1933, in Springbrook. He preceded her in death February 22nd, 1999. Leona was a homemaker. She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, as well as the parish Rosary Society, the Navy Mothers Club and the ACCW. Survivors include her children, Beulah (Vernon) Kramer of Naples, Florida, Myrl Scheckel of Andrew, Anita (Vincent) Schmidt of rural Bellevue, Nora (Joe) Conner of Richmond, California; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one step-sister, Erma Weis of Springbrook and one sister-in-law, Doris Weis of Moline, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Martha Scheckel, WI and Daisy Clasen, LaMotte; one brother-in-law, Forian Scheckel, Springbrook. Besides her husband Matt she was preceded in death by two brothers, one half-brother; five sisters and one step-sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook. The Rev. Fr. James Heiar & Rev. Fr. Donald Plamondon will concelebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 3-7 pm at the Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home in Bellevue and again on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of services at the church in Springbrook. The Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Bellevue is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
