Margaret E. Mauer

Margaret E. Mauer, 97, of Bellevue, died Tuesday morning August 9, 2011, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue, where friends may call after 9:00 a.m. also at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Dubuque. Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Margaret was born July 10, 1914 in DesMoines, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Sarah Jane (Starkey) Quick. She married Harold Mauer on November 29, 1934 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. Margaret was a home maker and raised her family in Dubuque, after retirement she and Harold moved to Bellevue. Margaret was strong willed, firm but fair, and always looked for and found the good in people. She was forgiving and had a strong faith in Christ and the Catholic Church. Her generosity was shown through her volunteer work. She once received volunteer of the year, presented by the governor, for her service at the Bellevue Community Center. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, cooking, bingo and playing euchre. She will be deeply missed by her family. Those left to honor her memory include two sons, Robert H. (Darlene) Mauer, of Dubuque and Daniel J. (Mary Paul) Mauer, of Bellevue; ten grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great -great grandchildren; one sister, Delores Reifsteck, of East Dubuque, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters; Henrietta Greenwauld, Arvilla Schweitzer, Loretta Gross and Viola Bender; and three brothers, Francis, Cletus, and Louis. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Mill Valley Care Center and Hospice of Jackson County for all the care and comfort provided to her.
