Marie Loretta Maiers, 103, died peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Marie will be held from 2:00 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again on Monday morning after 9:30 a.m. also at the funeral home. Marie was born January 8, 1909 in Luxemburg, Iowa to John and Susan Greiner. On April 16, 1929 she married Fred J. Maiers, sharing 63 wonderful years together and creating legacies of memories with their annual Maiers Christmas display. Marie was a member of the Bellevue Garden CIub, St. Joseph Parish, Rosary Society and Past President of the KC Auxiliary. For many years, Marie always had a sewing project going or was making her infamous pin cushions and 'cats'. She loved having company and prided herself on knowing everyone's favorite treats and always having them on hand. For all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, there was nothing like visiting grandma's cookie jar. She had a love for baking and gardening, she was able to continue these passions until moving to Sunrise Villa and Mill Valley in late 2004. Marie is survived by two daughters, Jean Ann Van Deusen and Grace Maiers, Bellevue; two daughter-in-Iaws, Marilyn Maiers, Bellevue, and Connie Maiers, Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Sheila (Clete) Heim, Susan Davids, Michael Van Deusen, Lynne (Randy) Hager, Bellevue; Kristi Maiers (Eric Flatjord), Hiawatha; Beth Maiers, Fred (Lisa) Maiers III, Dubuque; Patricia (Kurt) Behning, Peosta; 15 great grandchildren, Nick (Tonya) Heim, Colin Hager, Trevor Hager, Bellevue; Justin Davids, Kitty (Chris) Serrano, Davenport; Josh Merta, Travis Merta, Cedar Rapids; Jared Heim, Aleah Maiers, Zavier Maiers, Vanessa Maiers, Javier Maiers, Erica Maiers, all of Dubuque; Spencer and Delaney Behning, Peosta; three great-great granddaughters, Macy Heim, Halle Heim, Bellevue; and Gabriella Serrano, Davenport; two sisters, Helen Gogel, Springfield, Iowa and Jeanette Reed, Urbandale, Iowa. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, John and Susan; stepmother, Theresa Greiner; two sons, James (1998), Fred Jr. (1999); son-in-law, Clarence Van Deusen (1978); seven sisters and five brothers. The family would like to especially thank her Mill Valley family for their many years of wonderful care, kindness and comfort and to Dr. Hunter, for his endearing support.
