Marvin Jim Ernst, 77 of Bellevue, passed away, Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Placid. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday Evening, at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 until procession to the church. The Hachmann Funeral Home of Bellevue is in charge of the arrangements. Jim was born on January 03, 1934 in Bellevue, son of Joseph and Josephine (Ries) Ernst. He married Mary J. McDermott on July 30, 1971 in Fillmore, Iowa. She passed away June 30, 2005. Jim lived and farmed the home farm all his life. He was a John Deere man and an extremely hard worker. He was quiet, simple, generous and spiritual. He had a great sense of humor and always willing to lend a hand. He loved children and animals. His dog duke was very special to him. Surviving are his four brothers, Carl (Olivia) and Gregory (Patricia), both of Bellevue, Donald (Frieda), of Andrew, and Herbert (Joanne), of Dubuque; a sister, Mary Lou (Lawrence Jr.) Griebel, of Bellevue, sisters in-law, Ann (Bob) Beschen, Mary Ernst, Bea (Dick) Soens, Madeline McDermott, Rev. J.E. McDermott SVD, Patrick (Patricia) McDermott, Michael McDermott, Tom (Erica) McDermott, Linus (Shirley) McDermott and Camillus (Maureen) McDermott; and aunt Katie Ries He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Harold, Joseph, and Norbert; two sisters, Alice Weinschenk and Algean Ernst.
