Merlin William Steines

Merlin (M.W.) Steines, 80, of Clinton passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at Lemke Funeral Homes South Chapel, 2600 Lincolnway on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 3pm with Father John Stack officiating. Pallbearers will be Benjamin and Rebecca Steines, Justin and Eva Colschen, Roger Hoerschelmann and Floyd Steines. Visitation will be held from 1pm 3pm at the Funeral Home on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Merlin was born July 18, 1926 in Spragueville, IA to John and Lonie (Schmidt) Steines. He was a veteran of WWII. Merlin married Eva Marr on January 19, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church, Clinton. He was a self-employed carpenter and operated his own business, M.W. Steines Home Remodeling, until retiring in 1983. Merlin was a member of the Moose Club, VFW in Camanche, the Local Bowling Hall of Fame and Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Church. He was very active in the Clinton Mens Bowling Association and sponsored many teams throughout the years. He and his brother Arnie participated in the Brothers Tournament in Peoria every year and eventually started one in Clinton at the Odeon Club until 1990. His hobbies included fishing and woodworking but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Eva; one son, Merlin (Cindy) of Decorah, IA; one daughter, Joellen Colschen of Clinton; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one sister, Velma (Alvin) Yaddof of Preston, IA and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice. Condolences can be made online at www.lemkefuneralhome.net
