Michael Ambrose Clemens

Michael Ambrose Clemens, 82, of Bellevue, peacefully passed away at home, Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League, Dubuque. Visitation will be held from 2:00 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again on Monday morning after 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. There will be a scripture service for Mike Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Michael was born on January 29, 1930 in Oelwein, Iowa son of John and Gertrude (Stunes) Clemens. He Married Dorothy Bily on August 9, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Mike served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. He participated in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. Mike was extremely proud of his military service which attributed to his true discipline. Michael was a hard worker, he always kept busy. After returning from the military, he was employed with North Western Bell Telephone Company. He worked as manager for the telephone companies of Decorah, Clinton and Cedar Rapids. In 1973 after 27 years at the telephone company, he resigned from his last position. He then owned and operated Clemens Beverage Company in Dubuque. Mike was also involved in real estate and land development. Mike and Dorothy loved to travel and visit countries all over the world where they made many friends. Mike was a member of the board of DAC in Maquoketa, and was a member of the Brain Trust at the Car Wash. He loved to start each day with a laugh. Michael was intelligent, disciplined, and carried a great sense of humor. His family meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, of Bellevue; son, Michael Scott, of Anamosa; daughter, Joan Arthur, of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren, Abigail (Mike) Panoske, Katie Arthur, Brad Clemens, Meghan, Andrew, and Alex Arthur; three great grandchildren, Brylin, and Malena Panoske, and Otis Gray; four brothers, Bill (Elaine), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Howard (Helen), of Elgin, Illinois, Tom, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jim (Helen), of Ottumwa, Iowa; and sister, Maxine Frost, of Cedar Falls. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig on October 12, 1982; brother, John; and two sisters, Patricia Clemens and Marian Brydon. The family would like to thank all those who participated in the care of Mike from Hospice of Dubuque especially Dawn you all are truly angels of mercy.
