Mona Reed

December 29, 1932 — August 28, 2014

Lois Mona Joyce Reed 81, of Bellevue, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. Private family services will take place at a later date. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bellevue. Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Mona was born December 29, 1932 in Rural Maquoketa, the daughter of Elmer Scoop and Martha Leona (Teters) Rorah. She married Kenneth Reed on June 21, 1952 at Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew. Mona was a woman of many talents and had a great work ethic. Throughout her life she kept busy as a young working mother with her children at her Parents Nursing Home in Maquoketa-many special memories were made among the generations working and being together. Along the rest of Mona's working trek she spent time working for Neal and Owen at the Bowman Locker, enjoyed a bout in fashion working in many local clothing stores in Maquoketa and cooking for local restaurants in Bellevue. Her final job was working with her daughter helping run her cleaning business, together they created lots of Shine Therapy to finish out a long working career for Mona. In her spare time she enjoyed working in the garden and with her flowers. She was an avid Days of Our Lives follower and could play a mean game of solitaire. She looked forward to visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren treasure making many of her recipes-especially her sweet rice. Mona was a quiet spirited, kind, fun-loving lady who will be missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched in her own special way. Those left to honor her memory include her three children, LuAnn (Steve) Beck, of Bellevue, Randy Reed, of Maquoketa and Cindy Schreiber, of Davenport; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Hunter, of Bettendorf and Matthew (Scott VanDeWoestyne) Beck, of Davenport; and three great grandchildren, Cami, Alex, and Brady Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Albert Schreiber; and brothers, Gerald Wayne and Edward LeRoy. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County in Monas Name. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com
