Sharon Sue Matthews (Simpson)

Sharon S. Matthews, 73, of Bellevue, passed away Friday afternoon, October 4, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, October 10, 2013, at Hachmann Funeral Home in Bellevue. Private Family Burial will be at a later date. Visitation for Sharon will be held from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening prior to the service also at the funeral home. Sharon was born on March 8, 1940 in Zwingle, Iowa, the youngest of 15 children. She was the daughter of Ross and Lelia (Drenning) Simpson. She married Stan Matthews on March 8, 1964 in Moline, Illinois. Sharon was a homemaker all her life, she and her husband moved to Bellevue in 1969 and raised four children. She was salt of the earth, extremely loving, helpful and never met a stranger. Sharon carried a positive attitude and had a passion for animals. She also enjoyed crafts and bingo. She will be deeply missed. Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 49 years, Stan, of Bellevue; four sons, John (Muna), of Cedar Rapids, Stephen, of Bellevue, Richard, of Dubuque, and Will, of Bellevue; a brother, Russell (Kitty) Simpson; and a sister, Doris Riekena. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 12 siblings.
