Stan D. Matthews

Stan D. Matthews, 79, of Bellevue, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Mercy One in Dubuque. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, December 20, 2021 at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Family will greet friends 11:00am until service time. Burial will be in First Presbyterian Cemetery in Bellevue. Stan was born November 25, 1942 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Edward and Ilene (Ballard) Matthews. He graduated from West Delaware High School in 1961 and also served in the Army National Guard. Stan married Sharon S. Simpson on March 8, 1964, she passed on October 4, 2013. Stan worked for Greyhound Busing, Pepsi Delivery, and retired after 39 years with Flexsteel in 2007 as a truck driver. He enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, visiting with people, and listening to music and attending events at Ohward Fine Arts Center in Maquoketa. Stan and his brother Dave enjoyed many trips together after they both retired, visiting many places from Stan’s working years. Stan was dedicated to his children and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his children, John (Muna) of Hiawatha, Stephen of Bellevue, Richard of Dubuque, and Will of Bellevue; a brother, David Matthews of Hiawatha, a sister in-law, Janeen Matthews of Woodbridge, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother Michael; and a sister in-law, Sheryl Matthews. A memorial fund has been established in Stan’s memory.
