Thomas E. Howes, 83, of Bellevue, passed away Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery where full Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #273. Visitation for Tom will be held from 3:00 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Hachmann Funeral Home and again on Tuesday morning after 9:30 a.m. at the church until service time. Tom was born on September 15, 1929 in DeWitt, Iowa, son of Clyde and Margaret (McAllister) Howes. He married Roberta Benda on October 27, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa. Tom Served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge he worked as a Claims Adjuster for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company for over 50 years. He also farmed for many years. Tom was a man who enjoyed reading and learning. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and doing projects on the farm. He was proud of being a Mason for over 50 years. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Roberta, of Bellevue; three sons, Steve (Terri), Tom (Terri), and Dan (Bonita), eight grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Hallie); and four sisters, Margaret Schlue, Mary (Tim) Harrington, Joyce (Dave) Lutz, and Judy Libberton.
