Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday at the Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue and again Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am also at the funeral home. Wilfred was born the son of Antone and Matilda (Goscha) Schwager on October 4, 1931 in Andrew, Iowa. Wilfred graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 as an instructor in the Signal Corps. Upon returning from the Military he married Phyllis Kueter on October 20, 1954 and together they raised eight children. Wilfred went to school to become an electrician and worked in that field for a number of years until he was hired as a sales and service representative for DeLaval Dairy Equipment. He eventually acquired the dealership and truly enjoyed all the relationships he built throughout his 30 year career. Wilfred was a devoted husband, parent and grandparent. He was a very faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Throughout the years he served as a mass server, lector, sacristan, taught CCD, assisted at many funerals and also served as a board member for the Catholic School System. Wilfred was a hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He loved to read and study genealogy, however, his family always came first. Spending time with his children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, of Bellevue; children, Francis (June) Schwager, of Millington, Tennessee; Bruce (Pam) Schwager, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Phillip (Barbara) Schwager, of Saulsbury, Tennessee; Gregory (Kari) Schwager, of DesMoines, Iowa; Rose (Chris) Waber, of Wheaton, Illinois; Lynn (Theresa) Schwager, of Bellevue; Neal (Brenda) Schwager, of Ames, Iowa; Margo Jebe, of Waverly, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; special sister in-law, Rosemary Schwager, of Bellevue; and many other brother and sister in-laws.
