William Thompson was born on June 20, 1922 in Syracuse, New York, son of Seward and Mary (Stroud) Thompson. Bill enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne in 1941 and retired in 1969 (28 years). He served during three wars; WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. After his military career, Bill worked for the government civilian service for about 10 years in Florida. He retired once again and made his way to Bellevue in 1979. Bill was extremely out going. From his arrival in 1979 until his admittance to Mill Valley Care Center just a few years ago, he became a fixture of Bellevue. Daily, his routine consisted of walking miles around town, patronizing various businesses, and visiting with their customers. Bill was a very talented bowler, golfer, and pool player. He was in many leagues and always took time to help the youth excel in these three sports. Bill loved to tell stories and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed. He is survived by two sons, Richard and John Jack Thompson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda. A special thanks to Mill Valley Care Center for the special care and compassion shown to Bill for the past three years. Online condolences may be left at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com
